Ever since the Real Techniques brushes appeared at Priceline I’ve been toying with the idea of picking some up as I’ve been dying to try them. I finally decided to take the plunge and purchase the Real Techniques Stippling Brush which was on sale for $19.54AUD and the Travel Essentials set which was also on sale for $33.99AUD.

Stippling Brush: I’ve never used a stippling brush to apply foundation before but have heard many good things about this brush in particular and so was keen to give it a try. I tend to always favour using my fingers to apply foundation since I’m lazy when it comes to brush cleaning and while I did like this brush I still prefer just to use my fingers! I found that you really need to work the foundation in with this brush and if you aren’t careful you will end up with brush marks across your face, however you do get a lovely even, airbrushed finish once you have worked in your product. I’m undecided about whether I really like using this as I feel it makes foundation application more time consuming than it usually is and I doubt I would travel with it since when I’m travelling makeup brushes are the first thing to go from my travel kit in favour of using cream products that can be applied with fingers.

The Travel Essentials set contains the Essential Foundation Brush, Domed Shadow Brush and the Multi-Task Brush. They come contained in quite a handy case that can be used as a stand.

Essential Foundation Brush: This is a little smaller than foundation brushes that I have used in the past and the tapered end makes it really effective for applying foundation around areas such as underneath the eyes and nose area.

Domed Shadow Brush – Since getting this all I’ve used it for is applying concealer and I love it for this purpose, I’d always just used my finger to apply concealer in the past but I love how gentle this brush is for blending my concealer into my foundation beneath my eyes and anywhere else I choose to apply it.

Multi- Task Brush – This is a big fluffy, dense and soft brush that I’ve tried using it for both powder and blush however I find because it is just so soft it doesn’t pick up all that much product when used for blush in particular. I’m going to play around with using it for translucent powder as I think it would be really effective at applying a very light dusting of product.

Overall I was very pleased with the Real Techniques brushes although maybe a little underwhelmed I mean they feel very sturdy and well made and they look really nice, I didn’t experience any shedding when I washed them but I think these have been so hyped maybe I was expecting more.

Normal retail price is $22.95 for the Real Techniques Stippling Brush and $39.95 for the Real Techniques Travel Essentials.
