Just thought I’d post a quick update letting you all know that I’ve now arrived in Melbourne and boy is it freezing and wet. Of course that’s no surprise but freezing and wet in Perth compared to Melbourne are two very different things! I’m now spending time getting my resume out to employers and going through the somewhat soul-crushing experience of finding a job, I hope it doesn’t take too long to acquire.

The boyfriend and I have quite a few space issues since we only have a very small bedroom we have been trying to come up with some storage solutions. My boyfriend keeps a chest of drawers in the wardrobe and so I picked up some plastic drawers from Officeworks to place on top so that I would have somewhere to place my vast collection of makeup, skincare and haircare products. It doesn’t matter if it looks too untidy since it’s all hidden away within the cupboard:

I apologise for the horrendous photo quality, this was taken on my phone.

I’d also brought along from Perth one of the pink beauty subscriptions boxes not sure what company this was from as I packed some makeup inside it but I found the lid flipped upside down was a great little tray to place my perfumes and the boyfriend’s cologne. We have started hunting for a bookshelf now since we have a lot of books and documents that need a home since they are just in various places around the room and underneath furniture. Ideally we want a room that we are both comfortable in and where we aren’t tripping over each others belongings.

Do you have any great storage ideas for small spaces, I’d love to hear them in the comments!

  1. If you have a dining table, you can find bookshelves small enough to fit under it while still leaving room for feet – that way you can pop books there, without taking up even more floor space than is needed.

Underbed storage is amazing for the space-poor. Also, on the wall shelves, or hanging baskets. When you have a limited floor area, you start climbing upwards! A surprising number of things can actually stay up with the 3m stickers , so you won’t need to worry about your rental property walls. Not seeing your place, I can’t really give suggestions, but always happy to give ideas :D

Hope you are settling in nicely in Melb, I’ll see you when I go back to good ol’ Melb! Good luck with the job hunt!

Thanks for the great ideas Celeste! I’m going to find some storage containers that can slide under the bed, that’s a great idea and I can use it for shoes and bags etc. I’ve never tried those 3M stickers before but they sound like a great way of hanging up some things. Our queen size bed dominates the room so I need to make use of space underneath it for sure!

  2. I’m pretty much doing the same thing as you, I have a chest of drawers in my wardrobe and some of my makeup drawers are sitting on top of them!

I hope you find a job quickly, and yay Melbourne! <3 I'd move there if I could, I love the city so much. :)

I dream of the day I have my own place and can have a beautiful dressing table but this will do in the meantime. Melbourne is great, there is so much more to do here in comparison to Perth.

Good luck with the job hunting, great to hear you’re settling in well (with storage, anyway!) x
