I happened to notice a few products I’ve received over the past few months contained pomegranate oil or pomegranate extract as an ingredient so I was intrigued to do some research on pomegranates and their benefits in skin care. The pomaegranate is a plant native to Northern Africa and records can be found dating back to 1552 BC of it being used by Greek healers for managing health problems similar to arthritis, circulation problems, digestive disorders and infections.

The fruit was also involved in some ancient beauty concoctions and has been discovered that it carries excellent skin care properties including moisturising, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. In promoting more rapid cell regeneration and rejuvenation, it delivers a powerful anti-aging effect as it helps the skin retain moisture and maintain proper circulation and hydration. It contains a host of powerful antioxidant components, which are responsible brightening or lightening the skin tone. In extending the life of fibroblasts, it promotes the production of collagen and elastin, which give strength and support to the skin. This way, it effectively slows the formation of wrinkles and marks related to ageing. In aiding tissue repair, pomegranate has shown properties to expedite the wound healing process.

Here are the products containing pomegranate that I’ve been using recently:

  • A’kin Instant Radiance Facial Mask with AHA, BHA, Rosehip, Pomegranate and Vitamin B3 – I received this as a gift from the POBM I attended in January and love using it as a weekly treat to pamper my skin.
  • Korres Pomegranate Cleansing Scrub – I received this in my Valentine’s Beauty Blog Swap and it is a rougher scrub than I’m used to so I only use it every now and again but it leaves my skin feeling super smooth and clean.
  • Pomé Skin and Hair Wonder Serum with Pomegranate and Argan Oil – I received this in the March Glossybox and is great to use on the hair to keep it frizz free and to protect hair while heat styling.

Do you know of any other products containing pomegranate? What do you think of them?
