For a long time the Perth blogging community have watched enviously from the sidelines as bloggers on the east coast have gone to glamorous industry events, product launches and endless meet ups. Now it’s not that we didn’t want to have a meet up but none of us has ever taken the initiative to make it happen, we needed a hero to come in and do all of the organising for us and that hero came in the form of Annette Gohl, the editor of Wellness WA. She worked tirelessly to put together the first Perth Online Beauty Media Event (POBM). This was an opportunity for bloggers to meet for the first time and gain inspiration and knowledge with each other as well as put a face to those long admired online friends. The day was all about natural health and inner beauty but I of course came waltzing in with vampy winged liner and red lipstick!

(I’ll do a breakdown of this Face of the Day in a separate post)

The venue was the luxurious Djurra Lifestyle Salon and Spa on High St in Fremantle. The spa is located on the premises of what used to be an army surplus store. When we first arrived Anita Sutton of Djurra and the team treated us to an Aveda Peppermint Blue Oil Massage, this left my senses tingling we were then given some Aveda peppermint and licorice tea. Every customer to Djurra is treated to this massage whether they’re going in for a haircut or a bikini wax. Some girls were also treated to a soothing foot soak, I got a little sidetracked and missed out on this but those that were lucky enough to have one said it was amazing.

Drinks were supplied by Emma & Tom’s, and the team from The Raw Kitchen in Fremantle were generous enough to cater for the event and while I was curious (and somewhat dubious) of the whole raw food concept I was pleasantly surprised at how delicious everything was.

Raw Pizza made with a dehydrated buckwheat base with raw tomato, basil and capsicum salsa, macadamia and cashew nut cheese with a selection of fresh toppings. Raw Macarons and Cacao Mint Creams. The Cacao Mint Creams tasted like big after dinner mints, I may have pigged out on a few of these!

Naturopath Adele Plumridge was kind enough to come in and speak to us about the importance of healthy eating and maintaining healthy levels of vitamins and minerals in order to ensure good skin health. Here are some things that I learned:

  • Vitamin D is important not only for skin health, it also supports our immune system, our skin
acts as a barrier to outside harm and keeps our insides protected. It requires Vitamin
D for proper functioning of the immune system so the skin won’t suffer but make sure that sun exposure is moderated and always slip, slop, slap.
  • Cutting down levels of dairy, sugars and refined wheat can be very beneficial to your health. Digestive concerns need to be addressed as problems like constipation can prevent effective toxin removal.
  • The Zinc Taste Test was given to us by Adele to let us gauge the levels of zinc in our system and whether we were lacking, the more disgusting the zinc tastes to you then the healthier your zinc levels are. Personally I couldn’t even taste the zinc to begin with but then it started to take on a powdery, chalky, dishwater taste so I’m definitely lacking.
  • Breathing techniques, Adele did a quick meditation exercise as a way of helping us learn some basic methods to de-stress and help improve sleep.

Annette was able to get some very generous sponsors to gift us with some goody bags containing an amazing array of products while the team at Djurra also gifted us with a goody bag containing some Aveda products. I think I’ll do a separate post showcasing the contents of the goody bags and I’ll be doing review posts as I start trialling everything but here is a sneak peak inside them:

Last of all we had the product swap which was a lot of fun I managed to snag myself a Zoya nail polish in the colour Akyra, a L’Annine Avocado hand and body cream, an In Essence Aromatherapy hand cream, a Benefit lipstick in Liar Lips and an Evodia moisturising body lotion in champagne melon. I had only intended to take three items since I’d brought six and am trying to cut down on products but I ended up with five!

Door prizes provided by Endota Spa were won by Hannah from Beauty Down Under and Anissa of Beautifully Glossy – lucky girls! It was such a pleasure to meet some wonderful bloggers in person after admiring them from afar for so long, there was the mandatory sharing of secrets and tips and tricks as well!

Anissa from Beautifully Glossy, myself and Suzanne from Don’t they Know who I am (I switched between smiley and non smiley face as I wasn’t sure I wanted my braces on display, especially after eating raw pizza!)
