I recently won a giveaway on Lilpil’s Blog which was my choice of a product from Okoii Natural Skincare. Okoii creates luxury handmade skincare using high quality ingredients traditionally used in Asia and Japan. I decided to get the Cherry Blossom Starter Set so that I could try several products from the range. The set is valued at $45AUD and I was also given a full size of the Luxury Rice Bran Face Soap in an 80gm size. Yoko, the creator of the range was also kind enough to send me an email explaining how best to use the products, this really showed a lot of care in ensuring I would get the best benefit from the products.

These are the products in the Cherry Blossom Starter Set:

  • Organic Azuki Bean Scrub with Organic Green Tea 10gm – is a powder scrub that you mix with warm water then scrub it over your face, similar to Dermalogica Microfoliant. I haven’t really been using this much so can’t say whether I like it or not just yet, I only use a very small amount then combine with water as I don’t like scrubs that are too harsh. I’m terrible at getting into a routine with facial scrubs so I doubt I’ll remember to use this much.
  • Luxury Rice Bran Face Soap 13gm - This in appearance reminded me of the Neutrogena facial soap bars I used to use in my teen years. You use it after removing makeup and I found it very gentle and left my skin feeling beautifully fresh and clean.
  • Authentic Green Tea Purifying Toner 30ml – One of my favourite products I received, this toner is lovely and gentle and doesn’t leave my skin feeling dry and tight like some alcohol toners can.
  • Green Tea Beauty Moisturiser 15gm – This is a very lightweight moisturiser which I’m really loving. I find that if I’ve used the night oil in the evening before bed the next morning my skin seems to prefer something like this which feels light and fresh.
  • Camellia Night Beauty Oil 5ml – This would have to be my favourite product from the brand, the first time I used it I woke up with the most amazing clear complexion, my skin felt lovely and smooth and the best it has looked in ages. I’d been trialling the Lacura range for a while now and while I had no problems with the products I don’t feel that they did anything to make my skin look or feel better. The Okoii range makes my skin look clear, even, smooth and better than it has looked in years. I used this product for about a week straight every night but felt that my skin started to feel too oily so I’ve now started alternating it with a cream and only use it every second night. I wasn’t a fan of the packaging, it would have been nice if it came with an eye dropper for application because it was hard to dispense a small amount. Here is some interesting information about Camellia Oil from the Okoii Website:

Camellia Oil has been used in China for more than 3000 years, and was regarded as the Emperor’s Oil. In Japan, camellia oil has been used for over 1000 years for skin and hair care.

Camellia oil has excellent moisture retaining abilities and is absorbed faster into the skin than the most other oils, allowing it to penetrate its nutrients into deeper layers of the skin. It contains a number of nutrients such as vitamins A, B, C, & E, various minerals, omega-6 essential fatty acids, and omega-9 fatty acids, which nourish the cell membranes, replenish skin lipids, smooth rough and flaky skin, soothe and calm easily irritated skin, and protect from UV damage.

Furthermore, there are other benefits including a gradual reduction in wrinkles and tiny maturity lines, potential disappearance of age-spots, stretch marks and freckles. Given all these various great benefits, Camellia Oil is truly the natural, beauty secret from the Orient.

The products come packaged in little glass bottles, very much like essential oils. Because these products are made to order and contain organic ingredients they are best used straight away and kept stored in the fridge to maintain their freshness. I did not realise this when I got them and kept them in my bedroom for a good few weeks before I started using them – oops! The products were still fine though, they did not smell off or anything like that and I thought they worked beautifully. I will definitely repurchase the Camellia Night Beauty Oil because I loved what it did for my skin and I might possibly repurchase the toner and moisturiser because I really liked them as well.

Thanks Lilpil and Okoii for the awesome giveaway, I’m so happy with the products and the love and care that went into the creation of them. The Camellia Night Beauty Oil would have to be the find of the year for me, it’s incredible! Check out the Okoii Website if you’d like to find out more about the range.
