I first bought a GHD hair straightener about 2 and a half years ago, they really are the best hair straighteners that money can buy and I loved using it to add curls and waves to my hair and very occasionally I might straighten it. However about 3 months after the warranty expired I discovered that one of the plates had stopped functioning. I’d been noticing a poor performance in my GHD for a while but it had never occurred to me to put my hand on the plate to feel it – what am I an idiot? So I rang GHD and asked what could be done, they informed me that since it was out of warranty they couldn’t replace it but could repair it at a cost of $115 and extend the warranty by 6 months. I was really hesitant to spend another $115 on something that cost $270 to begin with that I had only owned for a little over two years . That is a lot of money to spend on repairing something that hairdressers and friends had assured me would last for years and years. I shunned GHD and purchased a cheap little Babyliss hair straightener for about $70, it was no where near as good but it did a decent enough job until I had the money to either upgrade or repair my GHD.

I finally decided to go ahead and purchase another brand new GHD rather than have my old one repaired. A 6 month warranty isn’t all that comforting and I’d much rather just have a new GHD than repair a faulty one. So here is my brand spanking new GHD Gold Classic Styler ordered from the GHD Australia website. I placed the order on the 8th of October and I was sent an email confirming that my order had been received and I would have confirmation once it was processed, I waited until the 13th of October before starting to wonder when it would ever be processed however it turned up on my doorstep that day!

The presentation is outstanding arriving in a very durable black box with gold detail. It also came with a protective plate guard to place over the end of the straightener although I found it doesn’t stay put very securely so if I’m unpacking my GHD from my suitcase it will quite often slide off and drop on the floor. The thing I love most about GHD compared to other straighteners is the way the plates just glide through hair, I can do my hair so quickly with it to create curls or straighten. My hair is left smooth, shiny and free of frizz. I always recommend using a heat protectant spray with it, I’m currently loving Schwarzkopf Heidi’s Heatstyles Heat Protection Spray which I will do a review on at a later date.

Here is my favourite way to do my hair with the GHD, I let my hair dry naturally into waves then curl random sections with it around the front just to frame my face. I prefer my hair to be messy and tousled rather than perfectly sleek and straight. My hair is quite difficult to take photos of because it’s so dark you can’t really tell much from my pictures!

I paid $269AUD for my GHD so please don’t make me regret buying you. Now I need to work out what to do with my old broken one :)

your hair looks so lovely like that! I am hopeless at curling with my GHD haha

Thanks Tegan! I got a hairdresser to teach me when she was doing my hair once, ever since I learnt how to do it I got rid of my curling wand since I can do it with my GHD – Versatile!

  2. 6 month warranty isn’t much :(

I also need someone to teach me the art of GHD curls since a makeup artist at Kit Cosmetics had the dreamiest curls I’ve ever seen! I’ve been shown at least 4 times but it just.doesn’t.stick in my brain! x

Cool. I have never used a GHD but I know everyone raves about them. I have a cheap ceramic Remington straightner that has always done a decent job. When that dies i’ll upgrade to a GHD. Looks so easy to do curls with too

  4. [...] Volume and Length – 30cm set in the shade Dark Brown (RRP $49.99): This was one big piece with five clips in it and is great for adding volume to the crown. Unfortunately I found this felt very heavy in my hair and I could never get comfortable enough with it to forget that I was wearing it. as you can see from my photo since my hair is so fine on the top you can tell where this joins, I can’t place it any lower though because the clips at the bottom won’t have an hair to grip to. Bit of a dilemma, I must have a weird shaped head since I couldn’t get this to work on my hair. In the photo though it looks like I have mega thick hair , I’ve also curled it with my GHD. [...]
